La Adictiva

Popular banda group La Banda San Jose de Mesillas originate from Mesillas Concordia in the musically rich and active state of Sinaloa, Mexico. Having come together in March of 1990, La Banda San Jose de Mesillas -- numbering more than 15 players -- have earned a reputation as seasoned veterans of the regional Mexican music world. After years making records with EMI International, the California-based band entered uncharted territory with independent label La Sierra Records for the 2007 release Para Conquistarte, followed by Como la Palma di Mano in 2008. The group underwent a name change to La Adictiva Banda San Jose de Mesillas at that point, though their musical style remained the same. Their debut issued under the new moniker, Corridos Adictivos, was their final album for La Sierra in 2009. Later that year, they signed with Sony and issued Viva Sinaloense in August of 2010. Nada Iguales followed in October of 2011 and Pasado Es Pasado in 2012. By that time, La Adictiva Banda San Jose de Mesillas had become radio and chart staples, as well as a touring sensation not just in Mexico, but in the United States as well, particularly on the West Coast and in the Southwest as far east as Texas. In 2013, the band issued a best-of compilation titled Muchas Gracias, followed by the hit single "Un Fin en Culiacán" in the spring of 2014. The full-length Disfruté Engañarte was released in July of that year, during an international tour. Both the single and the album charted in the Top Ten of various regional Mexican music charts. The following year saw the release of Frente a Frente, a joint compilation with Banda Costeña. They returned to the studio to record new material in early 2016, issuing the full-length Durmiendo en el Lugar Equivocado in November. While the band frequently changed its lineup during its tenure, a major revamp took place around this point, as the group did not release a new record for four years -- an eternity for the genre. When the group finally resurfaced in 2020 with an album celebrating its 30th anniversary, it had simplified its name to La Adictiva and left Sony for Anval Music. Moreover, this new incarnation attempted to update the band's traditional sound by incorporating elements from more contemporary styles, chiefly the corridos tumbados. Their 2024 EP, On the Road, featured cameos from younger artists such as Gabito Ballesteros, Montana, and Grupo Marca Registrada. ~ Evan C. Gutierrez & Thom Jurek, Rovi
