Omnus

Omnus was created after the burning wish to create something new; a missing piece to the so plentiful metal scene. But how does one create anything new, when “everything” is already composed, said and done? Omnus is a project that aims to answer this very question Metal and classical, are for many people related genres, and bands have been combining these two from the birth of the metal scene. But the classical tradition is vast and spans back in time for at least a thousand years. From the counter-tenors of the barouqe to the harmonies of the 1900’s, and from the polyphony of Palestrina to faux and Bach. There remains a lot of unexplored options one can bring intro the 21st century metal scene. Omnus was formed in 2019 when composer and pianist Ola Moum reached out to the guitarist and composer Christian Foldal with a collaboration proposition. Together they would try to combine Ola's classical influences with the new-age metal sound of Christian's guitar playing to something new. Through friends, the band joined forces with singer and producer Geir Wetterhus of the band Assimilate/Geigerteller. With Geir's innovative mixing and ideas of sound the band began their quest to make their first album. After alot of trial and error, they eventually reached the ethos of Omnus in their first 2021 album "Stepping Stones". An album that shows the band's journey to create their own sound where the classical traditions are carefully mixed with hard-hitting metal riffs.
